Daily Folders
This is the most important thing in your child's book bag! Inside the folder you will find the weekly Newsletter. This paper has everything you will need to know - homework, what we are learning, and ways you can help your child at home! Plus it has upcoming events & important information listed. Important papers or information will go home in this folder as well. Please check over any papers in the folder - sign or initial it and return the folder each day they are at school.
Homework
Students have homework Monday-Thursday. They will need to complete it each night and keep it in their folder. I will check it each morning and then on Fridays I will take it all out of the folder and staple it together. Every child is expected to complete all given homework assignments. These are things they should be able to do independently when they get home. Your job as their parent/guardian is to go over it and then if they have a mistake or question you can help.
Please note: I DO NOT CARE HOW YOU TEACH THEM TO SOLVE ANY MATH PROBLEM! There are so many ways to solve math problems please do not hesitate to say "This is the way I know how to solve it; I know Mrs. McMurry might do it differently." and then throw in the "Mrs. McMurry TOLD me, I could show you this way." Feeling confident in solving math problems is the main goal. As your child's teacher I will always teach them WHY or HOW that works but when they are at home, you are their teacher, you do you!

Class Dojo
ClassDojo is a HUGE communication tool. I will use this a behavior tool, you will see how your child is doing in live time through out the day. You will see messages from me, and there can be two-way conversations through private messages or comments about something posted. You will also be able to see what other important staff members post - our principal, the art teacher, PE teacher, etc.

Classroom Expectations
Classroom rules are very important in our classroom. We go over the rules and expectations at the start of school. At Jefferson, we use a system of positive behavior expectations based on the matrix, SCORE.
S - Safety C - Cooperation O - Organized R - Respect E - Excellence (giving your very best)
The students are very knowledgeable about each letter and what it stands for. We keep track of their behavior on Class Dojo. You will see in real time if your child is behaving or misbehaving. Everyday your child with starts the day with 0 points. If they end at 0 then they had a great day! If they earn an extra point then they did something above and beyond expectations. Students will always receive a verbal warning before their point is taken away. The others will be if the offense continues. You can always message me or call (after 3:00) to get more information on what happened.

This awesome website goes right along with what we are doing in class. Students can revisit or learn the next lesson by watching videos of a Zearn math teacher complete step-by-step directions on how to solve the problem and then have guided and independent practice. Spelling Words
Students have spelling words each week. The words will be provided in their weekly newsletter. These are the words they need to study and complete their spelling activities with. We will have a spelling test each Friday (end of the week) on those words.
